THE JOINT MATHEMATICS MEETINGS ...
IN NEW ORLEANS!
An Open Letter to all JMM 2006 Participants:
The American Mathematical Society and
the Mathematical Association of America are pleased to announce
that we will host the Joint Mathematics Meetings in New Orleans
in January, 2007.
The officers and staff of AMS and MAA
have continuously monitored the situation in New Orleans following
hurricane Katrina. We are convinced that the area of New Orleans
where our meetings will be located is safe and fully operational.
The host hotels, the smaller subsidiary hotels, and the many restaurants
of the French Quarter were not seriously damaged and are open for
business. Essential services to the areas surrounding our meetings
are fully restored. Major conferences are already being held in
the city.
New Orleans is one of the favorite meeting
sites for the JMM. While the health and safety of our meeting attendees
is our primary concern, we also want to show our support for the
people of New Orleans. We can do this best by holding our meeting
in New Orleans next year as planned.
We wish you all a wonderful JMM in 2006
in San Antonio, and we hope to see you again next year in The Big
Easy.
Sincerely,
Carl C. Cowen, President
