Mirzakhani to Speak on Geometry
of Surfaces, Laminations,
and Dynamics over the Moduli Space of Riemann Surfaces
Maryam Mirzakhani, Princeton University, will deliver an AMS-MAA
Invited Address on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 11:10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m..
She will speak on Geometry of surfaces, laminations, and dynamics over
the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. This lecture will be held in
Ballroom Salons 1 and 2, Lobby Level, Marriott Wardman Park.
Maryam Mirzakhani (Born 1977 Tehran) is an Iranian mathematician whose
research interests include Teichmüller theory, hyperbolic geometry,
ergodic theory, and symplectic geometry.
Mirzakhani obtained her BSc in Mathematics (1999) from the Sharif University
of Technology. She holds a PhD from Harvard University (2004), where she
worked under the supervision of the Fields Medallist Curtis McMullen.
She was a Clay Mathematics Institute Research Fellow from 2004 - July
2008 and is a professor at Princeton University.
