Call for Proposals for Panels, Workshops, and Other Events

Submit Your Proposal Deadline for proposals is April 8, 2025.

We want your proposals for panels, workshops and other events at the 2026 Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) being held January 4-7, 2026, in Washington, DC!

We invite proposals that reflect the full spectrum of interests of the mathematical sciences community. Proposal topics can be wide-ranging, such as: creating an inclusive atmosphere in the mathematical sciences community; teaching and learning; professional development and professional concerns, recreational mathematics; and wider issues. Events that connect communities are welcome, such as interdisciplinary workshops or collaborations between mathematical sciences researchers and mathematics education researchers. Note: if you are proposing a professional development opportunity, please see the Professional Enhancement Program page

Proposals Should Include:

  1. If applicable, a two-digit MSC (Mathematics Subject Classification) number that matches the topic of the event or a code from the New Expanded Classification System adopted for topics included previously in an MAA or other JMM session
  2. Title of the event
  3. Session Format (panel, workshop, other (specify))
  •  PANEL - A panel typically has a theme and about 3-6 panelists, who each make a short presentation related to that theme, followed by general discussion.  You may want to encourage discussion among the panelists and/or between the panelists and the audience.  Try to pick panelists with a diversity of experiences and viewpoints or perspectives.
  • WORKSHOP - A workshop should be hands-on, very interactive, or involve creating or writing something.  What will your participants do, or learn to do?  Participants may work with each other in small or large groups, or with the whole group.
  • OTHER EVENTS - These have included performances, puzzles, contests, and social gatherings around a common interest.  But you are free to propose any event that brings people in our community together.
  1. A short description to appear in the public program (character limit: 500)
  2. Name, affiliation, and email address of each organizer, with one organizer designated as the contact person for all communication about the event
  3. If your event involves an organization, list the organization(s) agreeing to be associated with your event
  4. A detailed (character limit: 3000) description of the proposed event, including the intended audience
  5. A proposed list of panelists/moderators/speakers and their institutional affiliation whom the organizers plan to invite. Have they agreed to participate? (please indicate under "Suggested Speakers" in the "Title" section)
  6. Duration of time requested for the event (please indicate in the Notes section: 1 hour, or 1.5 hours)
  7. Time slots to avoid (please indicate in the Notes section where possible)
  8. Other JMM events to avoid (please indicate in the Notes section where possible)

Deadline
Proposals for panels, workshops, and other events should be submitted to the JMM Program Committee via this submission form by Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Further Information:
Panels, workshops, and other events approved by the Program Committee will normally be allotted a 60-90-minute slot. (Note: Professional Enhancement Programs can have their own guidelines and can run up to four hours). Decisions will be made on proposals after the submission deadline has passed.

The number of panels, workshops, and other events in the AMS program at the Joint Mathematics Meetings is limited, and because of the large number of high-quality proposals anticipated, not all can be accepted, nor can all scheduling requests be honored.

Please submit as detailed a proposal for your event as soon as possible for review by the JMM 2026 Program Committee. Organizers of proposals will be notified whether their proposal has been accepted by end of May. Additional instructions and the event schedule will be sent to the contact organizer of each accepted proposal shortly after that deadline.

We look forward to receiving your submissions.
