Mohammad K. Azarian Prize for Mathematical Reviews Reviewers

This prize recognizes notable achievement by an MR reviewer. The current prize amount is US$5,000 and is presented annually at the Joint Mathematics Meetings.

About this Prize

This prize was established in 2025 to honor the contributions to the mathematical community made by reviewers in Mathematical Reviews/MathSciNet. Professor Azarian is a reviewer for both Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt MATH, served on the AMS Committee on Human Rights of Mathematicians, and in 2023 chaired that committee and was also the AMS Representative on the America Association for the Advancement of Science Human Rights Coalition.

The prize currently honors sequentially the following groups of reviewers:

1) A prize for an early career research mathematician (pre-doctoral through 10 years post PhD), highlighting those who also meaningfully contribute to the research community by writing reviews;

2) A prize for lifetime achievement, highlighting a reviewer who has been especially productive, whose reviews were particularly useful, and/or whose reviews were notably well-written; and

3) A prize for a contributor from a country and institution served by the MathSciNet for Developing Countries program, highlighting the global reach of MR and the extraordinary contributions made by mathematicians who are not in the US or other relatively wealthy countries.
